Veterinary Externships at Pets First
Hands-on learning within a collaborative general practice setting.
More Than Observation
At Pets First, externships are designed to be active and collaborative. Students participate in daily case discussions, observe surgical and dental procedures, and engage directly with our clinical team.
Our doctors value teaching and welcome thoughtful questions. You will see how conventional medicine and integrative options are evaluated together in real clinical decision-making.
Our Educational Approach
-
Clinical Participation
Externs observe appointments, assist where appropriate, and engage in case-based discussions. We emphasize diagnostic reasoning and clear treatment planning.
-
Integrated Care Model
Students gain exposure to both conventional general practice and integrative approaches. We discuss how different modalities are evaluated and when each is appropriate.
-
Surgery & Dentistry
Externs observe soft tissue surgery and dental procedures, with discussion of anesthetic protocols, monitoring, and recovery planning.
-
Team-Based Workflow
Students see how veterinarians, technicians, and client communication systems work together. Exposure includes modern digital tools and structured clinical documentation.
Externship Eligibility
Externships at Pets First are school-mediated placements. Students must be approved through their veterinary school’s externship program prior to scheduling with our clinic.
We host institution-approved students only. Academic approval, documentation requirements, and evaluation criteria are determined by the student’s veterinary school.
We do not independently grant academic credit or process institutional approval.
